Transforming Destiny's Play Area: A Project by studioNorth Architecture

We are thrilled to share the heartwarming story of our recent project with the incredible team at studioNorth Architecture. This initiative focuses on creating a safe, enjoyable, and adaptive play area for Destiny, an energetic 8-year-old with a truly inspiring story.

About Destiny

Destiny is a resilient young girl who has faced and overcome significant challenges. She is a cancer survivor, nonverbal, and deaf. Recently, her loving grandparents received full-time custody of her and are dedicated to providing her with a nurturing and engaging environment.

The Project

The project to enhance Destiny's play area was divided into two phases, ensuring every detail was meticulously planned and executed to meet her needs.

Phase 1: Bringing Joy and Safety

The first phase of the project saw the installation of several new and exciting features in Destiny's backyard:
- Disney Saucer Swing: A fun and interactive swing that offers a unique sensory experience.
- New Pea Gravel: Creating a safe and comfortable ground covering.
- Refinished Swing Set and Playhouse: Revamping existing structures to ensure safety and enjoyment.
- Extended Fall Zone in Front of Slide: Enhancing safety measures for active play.
- Water Table: Providing opportunities for sensory play with water.
- Trampoline: A source of endless fun and physical activity.
- Sensory Water Wall: Engaging Destiny’s senses and encouraging exploratory play.
- New Timber Border: Defining and securing the play area.

Phase 2: Final Touches

The second phase is set to begin soon and will include:
- Staining: Adding durability and aesthetic appeal to the play structures.
- Sound Play Items: Installing interactive elements that produce sound, enriching Destiny's play experience despite her hearing challenges.

A Community Effort

This project has been a labor of love, with the studioNorth team dedicating their time and expertise to bring Destiny's playset and backyard to life. Their commitment to creating an adaptable and safe play environment for Destiny is a testament to the power of community and the impact we can have when we come together for a cause.

Looking Ahead

As we look forward to the completion of Phase 2, we are excited about the continued enhancements and the joy they will bring to Destiny. We are grateful to everyone involved in this project and for the opportunity to support Destiny and her grandparents.
